CROSS COUNTRY NEWS
WHAT’S HAPPENING ON THE ROAD FOR JESUS WITH THE ROWES JUNE-NOV. 1999_________
HALLELUJAH! JESUS CHRIST IS LORD! TO ALL OUR PRECIOUS BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST. GREETINGS AND PEACE FROM GOD OUR FATHER AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.
PRAISE THE LORD! WE HOPE THIS NEWSLETTER FINDS YOU ALL IN GOOD HEALTH, PHYSICALLY AND SPIRITUALLY.
As you know from our last newsletter, the engine in our motorhome blew up on us, and we have been here in the Morgan City area since April.
During that time, the Lord blessed me with meeting a fellow street evangelist here named Billy Reaux. We have set up street churches and preached in various open air settings here throughout the summer. My cross carrying has continued, but not on such a regular basis as usual, due to my involvement with brother Billy and other aspects of ministry the Lord has moved me into.
Every other Friday night I have been able to join brother Charlie Plaisance and My Brother's Keeper ministry in Raceland as they preach the gospel on a street corner there. One evening when we went there, we were just getting ready to preach…I had just gotten done preaching a short five minute message as a microphone test, and I held the mike out to one of the other brothers and sisters, saying, "O.K., get on it," meaning for them to start preaching, and a woman came running out across the street to us, shouting "I'M FULL OF CRACK COCAINE, AND I NEED JESUS!" We ministered the Grace of God to her, and Charlie and Sherry ended up taking her into their house.
WONDERFUL JESUS! HOW BLESSED I WAS TO SEE THIS GREAT DEMONSTRATION OF LOVE BY CHARLIE AND SHERRY! THEIR MINISTRY IS GOING WELL. THEY ARE FAITHFUL SOLDIERS IN CHRIST. PLEASE PRAY THAT THE LORD WOULD ABUNDANTLY BLESS THEIR MINISTRY IN RACELAND.
FREE SODA OUTREACH.
IN the month of June, the Lord put it on my heart to do something a little different. A couple brothers in our Lord came up from Houma to minister with me one Friday, and the weather had been pretty bad, and it was threatening to rain again. We prayed to the Lord for direction. I didn't feel led to carry the cross…and because of the threat of rain, I didn't think that it would be wise to set up my sound system for a street-church type outreach. Suddenly the Lord spoke to my heart as to what to do.
We went to the local Walmart and bought ten cases of soda pop. It only cost me something like 45 dollars, including the ice for the coolers.
I printed up a flyer that said this:
MANY PEOPLE PROBABLY WONDER WHY WE ARE DOING THIS. NOT MUCH IS FREE THESE
DAYS WITH NO STRINGS ATTACHED...
BUT TODAY, WE ARE DEMONSTRATING OUR LOVE AND CONCERN FOR YOU AS A PERSON,
AND WE ARE DOING THIS AS A TOKEN OF OUR APPRECIATION FOR THE VERY PERSON
JESUS CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS FOR...YOU!
HIS GIFT OF SALVATION IS FREE FOR THE ASKING TO ANYONE WHO WILL ACCEPT
IT. JUST AS PEOPLE HAVE A CHOICE OF ACCEPTING OR REJECTING OUR FREE GIFT
TO THEM TODAY, THEY ALSO HAVE A CHOICE OF ACCEPTING OR REJECTING GOD'S
GIFT TO THEM OF ETERNAL LIFE. JESUS SAID "UNLESS A MAN IS BORN AGAIN, HE
CANNOT SEE THE KINGDOM OF GOD" (JOHN 3:3). HE WANTS YOU TO EXPERIANCE
THE NEW BIRTH THAT ONLY THE SPIRIT OF GOD CAN GIVE YOU. AND IT'S FREE.
WE JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT WE BELIEVE YOU ARE SPECIAL TO THE GOD
WHO CREATED ALL OF US, AND THAT YOU ARE SPECIAL TO US. WE ARE GOING TO BE
HERE A WHILE. IF YOU HAVE ANY PRAYER NEEDS, OR IF YOU NEED TO JUST TALK,
OR IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU NEED THAT FREE GIFT OF SALVATION, WE WOULD BE
HAPPY TO HELP YOU, AND IT'S FREE!
THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE.
FOR PRAYER, CALL:
(Here I had some phone numbers of some local churches.)
WONDERFUL JESUS! MAN, IT WAS A BLESSING TO SEE THE REACTION OF THE PEOPLE. WE DIDN'T HAVE A LOT OF TIME AT EACH LIGHT, SO WE WOULD JUST SAY," HEY, IT 'S FREE, IT'S ON JESUS," AND GIVE THEM THE SODA AND THE PAPER. IN ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF, WE GAVE 240 CANS OF SODA OUT, AND GOT 200 TRACTS AND THOSE SHEETS OF PAPER OUT! 240 PEOPLE RECIEVED THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL FOR JUST 45.00! MAN! WHAT A BLESSING!
Just before we started, a police officer saw us setting up on the corners and came to ask me what we were doing. I told him, hey, man, I was just sitting at home, and got this crazy idea that I wanted to bless a bunch of people today. So We are going to just give some free drinks to the people who stop at the lights. We aren't asking for anything at all, just giving it away. He had a pretty puzzled look on his face, and then I let him know that I'm the guy who's carrying the cross through town, and he looked like he got it then. I said, man, I'll do anything I can to touch people for Jesus! then I showed him the paper I had printed up, and he couldn't quite fathom the "Why" of the situation, but he and his partner recieved the Word of God before they left. I offered them a soda, but they turned them down.
Itwas so good there that day that a couple of weeks later, the Viators of NewIberia, and Cookie and Deborah from Lockport came with us to Lafayette to join John Hocutt in doing it again up there.
We set up my sound system and Michelle got on the microphone and told the passersby that we were giving away free sodas. We passed out the same flyer (with different phone numbers), and gave away about 280 sodas. Following the giveaway, John received three phone calls from people who were dealing with problems with drugs.
We came close to organizing a soda giveaway at every stop light in Morgan city with the participation of several churches here in Morgan City. I ran into a glitch with the city officials. But it encouraged me to see the number of pastors who had been ready and willing to participate in the effort. I believe this is the heart of the LORD, that the body of Christ would join together across denominational lines and put aside their differences, and make a viable presence in their towns. I have been saying for a few years that I believe if the Body of Christ came together in prayer and outreach, that it would not be impossible to take their city for Christ. The problem with the unbeliever is not so much with Jesus…their problem is with the hypocrisy and division they see in the Church. Jesus said that men would know we were His disciples when they see the love we have for one another.
Towns are being won for Christ even now through the Church uniting. In South America, and in Africa, and in California, and in other areas of the world, bars are being shut down, for lack of business because people are finding something better.
Not long ago, I believe I received a prophetic dream from the Lord. I want to share it with you.
There was a national prayer day going on. Christians around the United States, maybe around the World were getting together to form a prayer chain and to pray. I was going to join them. There had just been a March for Jesus earlier that day. I was headed for one place, to join a group of Christians that were getting ready to pray, but I thought I would stop at this other place to see if there was anyone I knew there. It was an airport, and the Christians were waiting inside the waiting area, until the time came where they would get together to pray. As I walked into the area where the Christians were, I saw Suzanne sitting there in a chair. I said hi to her, she jumped up, happy to see me, and hugged me. I saw several other people I knew, also. One brother walked up to me, and hugged me, and slipped an envelope in my hand, which I knew was money, and inwardly I was saying a prayer of thanks to God, because I was broke, and I needed the money to continue to where I needed to go. I gave the brother one of my tracts, and told him that if he wrote to me, I would put him on my newsletter mailing list. Several people who were sitting in chairs heard that, and they were all reaching out for my tracts. They wanted to be on my mailing list, too. They asked me if I would stay with them, but I needed to get with the other group. I asked them when the prayer was going to take place, and they said at 9:00, which was about an hour away.
As I left them, I had to go down to a basement to get out of the building. There were more people I knew there, and they were just finishing eating at a table. I had to walk in front of the people, between them and their food, which was in styrofoam trays to get to the door, but it barely hindered them from eating their food, they were just busy eating. A pastor I knew was sitting at the table too, and he was smoking a after dinner cigarette. He looked at me, and said "oops, you caught me;" and then started justifying why he was smoking his cigarettes. He tried to talk me into waiting with them, but I knew I only had an hour to get with the other believers, so I didn’t even answer him; ignoring the reasons he gave to justify his smoking. I just walked up the stairs to the outside. I had to get to the other group.
I believe God has given me some understanding of this dream. The fact that the march for Jesus had just happened and now there were Christians waiting to get together to pray tells me that there is going to be a uniting of the body of Christ across denominational lines. I knew a lot of people at the airport terminal, and they were waiting for the time when we would be able to get together and pray. I couldn’t stay with them because I had to go and be with another group. The time was short. I had their respect and their love, and lots of people wanted my newsletter.
The fact that we were at an airport tells me that these are Christians that are waiting for the coming of the Lord with an expectancy, but they were waiting. It was warm in there, and they were comfortable. There was indeed going to be a uniting of the body of Christ, and they were willing to be participants when it happened, but they were waiting. I was going to join the body of Christ in another town, but these were waiting.
Suzanne is a prayer warrior and a witness for Christ, a real witnessing machine. She was waiting for the body to become united. She was WAITING. Suzanne represents those brothers and sisters who are on fire for Jesus, and they are mighty prayer warriors, and great witnesses for Jesus, but they are waiting for the Body of Christ to be united. God wants them to become involved.
The brother blessed me with an envelope which contained money, and I was rejoicing in the Lord, because once again, He had provided for me, and as usual, He did it through a precious brother or sister in the Lord. The Lord was financing the ministry He had called me to so that I could go join my brothers and sisters in another town. This brother represents those who believe in the work the Lord has called ministers to, and they finance them for the furtherance of the gospel, out of their hearts, and they are willing to see the body of Christ united, but they are just content to give, and they are waiting for someone else to do the work.
Then the ones who were sitting down, and reaching out for my tracts so that they could be added to my newsletter list represent the ones who are content to sit in the pews and read about the work that others are doing, and they are for the body of Christ coming together, but they are doing NOTHING to see it come to pass. They love the things of God, they live clean lives for God, but they are just waiting, and going with the flow.
They all were asking me to stay with them, but I couldn’t, because I understood that I couldn’t wait with them. I had to do something.
Then I went down to the basement, where there were also people waiting, but they were separated from the others who were waiting in the terminal and they were eating. These people represent the religious ones who are only interested in indulging themselves and fulfilling their own desires instead of the desire of Jesus. They are willing to partake in things like march for Jesus or Prayer chains, but they have no real interest in seeing the body of Christ come together. It’s just another religious exercise. I had to walk in between them and their food, but that barely slowed them down, because they were intent on filling their own bellies. The fact that the food was on styrofoam plates represents the fast food mentality of these people. No matter how the word of God is preached, these don’t let the conviction of God come between them and their lusts. They hear the word, and they keep on feeding their own lusts.
The people were like this, because they were sitting under a pastor who also was given to indulging his own lusts, represented by the cigarette that smokes and eats away at at the lungs where the breath is, and the breath represents the Spirit of God. The cigarette diminishes the capacity of the amount of breath one can take, and pastors who indulge in their worldly desires and lusts diminish the capacity of the Spirit of God to work through them. They were in a basement, separated from the rest of the body in the terminal, because they are only interested in building their own kingdom, while having a show of desiring to see God’s will done. The pastor was concerned that I had caught him smoking, and this represents those pastors who are out to be seen and recognized by man, and who want to receive honor from men, supposing that if they receive honor from men, it is an indication of favor from God. Whereas the terminal was full of big windows and flooded with natural light, the basement was dark. Religion is dark. Impure motives are dark. I didn’t take the time to hear his justification for his self indulgence, because I had to get with the body of Christ that the Lord had called me to.
I DON'T THINK THE DREAM WAS JUST PIZZA!
It is so important for all who are a part of the Body of Christ to realize their responsibility before God. I can't walk in the Love of Christ if I am so preoccupied with the differences between me and my brother and sister, that I can't recognize Jesus in them. Racial, economic, social, and denominational barriers have to come down, and they can…if we don't wait for someone else to do it.
JULY- FREEDOM FEST
PASTORJules Boquet blessed us by inviting us to be a part of his Freedom Fest 4th of July outreach. Every year, his church throws the town's 4th of July festivities. The town comes to freedom fest for rides and good Cajun cooking, Gospel music, and the Word of God which is being preached during the entire festivities. Jules mightily blessed us by inviting us to be a part of the outreach. I walked the grounds with my robe and cross, and shared the Word a couple of times…I got to pray with a lot of people to receive Jesus during the three day outreach.
My wife and children were also blessed as a result of us being there…Jules got us a nice room at the Ramada and the kids enjoyed the pool and unlimited rides at the fair. Glory!
It's quite an accomplishment, a wonderful statement that a Church is able to throw the fourth of July celebration for the entire town.
PLEASE PRAY THAT THE LORD WOULD MIGHTILY BLESS PASTOR JULES AND HIS MINISTRY AS THEY ATTEMPT TO IMPACT THEIR CITY FOR JESUS!
In August, I began to build a web page for the goal of reaching others through the medium of the internet. I didn't know how much work was involved in it, but it consumed hours of my time. I have received responses from the site…so it makes it worth the time.
While the site documents a little bit of our ministry, and our testimonies, I also included the addresses and newsletters, addresses and testimonies of my fellow cross bearers, Michael Siemer, Brian O'Connell, Brian Chamberlin, Al Rodriguez, and Harold Bourgeois. If the Lord wills, I will also include other cross carriers I meet. I wanted to give honor to my fellow laborers. It's not the greatest site on the web, but it's not the worst, either. I also have some Bible studies and ideas for outreach in it as well. It took a lot of time, but it was worth it.
If you have a computer, you can check it out at:
(no spaces, all lowercase letters.
I also started an e-mail ministry, in which I send a study or some encouraging words a couple times a week.
We need to encourage one another in the Lord. If you wish, you can e-mail me at:
Then at the last part of August, I had a porch jumping contest with a youth pastor. Brad is a lot younger than me…I'm 43..I need to learn my limitations…The Bible says Pride goeth before the fall…I was competing with that young whippersnapper, and when I landed, my left leg snapped from the impact.
GLORY! I NEVER HAD THAT HAPPEN BEFORE! I DON'T THINK I EVER WANT IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN, EITHER! BOTH THE TIBIA AND THE FIBULA SNAPPED IN TWO.
The wonderful thing was the opportunity it afforded me to preach the word to the ambulance attendants and the doctors that I encountered. I believe the Lord diminished the degree of pain I should have felt. I didn't want to do any drugs that would impair my senses, so I refused any pain medication that they offered me. As a result, I believe the Lord gave me grace.
Don't get me wrong…the pain was pretty intense at times, but instead of screaming in pain when the paramedics and the doctors put different splints on my leg, I would grit my teeth and say "Man, this hurts me a lot right now, but I'm here to tell you that if you aren't Born Again, you won't make it to the Kingdom of God, and the pain you experience will be much more intense!"
The doctor in the emergency room in Franklin was of the Bahai religion. He was amazed at the fact that I took no medication, and this opened the door for me to witness to him later, when he came in alone to check on me. He looked down the hall in both directions, and then closed the doors and sat down beside me, and asked me how I came to be a Christian.
WONDERFUL JESUS! HE LISTENED VERY INTENTLY AS I SHARED MY TESTIMONY WITH HIM.
Because I didn't have insurance, they shipped me via ambulance to Lafayette. Once there, I witnessed to everyone I got a chance to. Michelle called the emergency room to find out how I was doing, and they asked her, "Is he the man that is Born Again?"
They told me that I would need a pin in my leg, and that they would schedule me for an operation the following Monday.
It would have cost me $12,000. I decided that we could go to the Lord in prayer and treat it ourselves.
Sunday we went to a service where a brother is gifted with the gift of healing. I wasn't healed, but I wasn't discouraged. The Lord is the Lord of my leg.
Unknown to me was the fact that in Port Arthur, Steve Verret, a friend of mine who happens to be the director of a hospital there, just happened to stop in to check out the street church on 7th Street that Harold Bourgeois pastors. I had sent out an e-mail telling those on my e-mail address list about my situation.
Harold told Steve, and Steve e-mailed me, and told me that he would arrange it so I could see an orthopedic surgeon, DR. LIAO.
I went to see him the following Wednesday, and he informed me that due to the severity of the break, I would need to get a rod inserted into my bones to join them together.
I explained to the doctor that I am a man of faith, and that although it certainly looked bad, I believed that all I needed was a cast to hold the leg in place while it healed. He informed me of all the possible ramifications of doing such a thing…
I told him that he was forgetting to tell me the possibility that it may heal up fine. He nodded, but looked very skeptical. I told him we were still going to go with the cast. He is a brother in the Lord, and he graciously arranged to schedule me for a full leg cast.
I'm still in it as I write this. I went to get a checkup this past week (Sept.), and the doctor informed me that while my bones are not in perfect alignment with one another, they are right on the borderline of what is acceptable to have a favorable prognosis of satisfactory mending. We are praying, and are using some home remedies on it…(The doctor cut a "window" in the cast so we could treat it).I believe it is coming along nicely.
I praise the Lord how He does things. Doctor Liao and Steve Verret and Doctor's Hospital blessed me, and did not charge me for the treatment.
I got a $330.00 bill for the emergency room in Franklin, and the same day was blessed with $300.00!
BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. GOD IS SO FAITHFUL TO SUPPLY OUR NEEDS! HE ALWAYS HAS BEEN.
PLEASE PRAY FOR STEVE VERRET, DR. LIAOU, AND DOCTOR'S HOSPITAL, THAT THEY WOULD ABUNDANTLY PROSPER IN ALL THEY DO. THEY CERTAINLY WERE A GREAT BLESSING TO ME.
Well, as most of you know, I am real big on Roman's 8:28:
"ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD FOR THOSE WHO LOVE GOD AND ARE CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE."
It applies here…every day before I carry the cross or whatever the Lord has me to do, I always give about 4 hours to study of the word. The Lord has oftentimes spoken to my heart to feed my family, also - here I am, having feasts in the Word, and my family is not. We have periodically tried devotions and have gone with them for a while, and then failed for one reason or another…but since I have had this broken leg, we have been able to be consistent at it. I praise the Lord…It is becoming a natural part of our day, and my children and my wife are benefiting from it.
I have also been privileged to spend much more than just four hours in His Word since the accident. I love eating the Word of God. Also the Lord has been giving me a lot of fresh insight in His Word, and in my personal walk with Him. I am not at all discouraged or frustrated by this turn of events in my life…The Lord is in control, and I have perfect peace. It's kind of like a Spiritual retreat.
Because of this "break time", I was able to go back home to Northern Minnesota for a couple of weeks in October. Ever since I have come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, I have had a burden to see my old friends find the fulfillment that is in Christ. The problem is that the climate isn't the only thing that is cold there…when it comes to true Christianity, the spiritual climate is just as cold if not colder.
When I was growing up, life up there was pretty cut and dried…you were either a part of the club that went to church, or you were a part of the club that went to the bars. Those lines never crossed. I sure didn't want to be a "Christian", and "they" (for the most part) sure didn't want to have anything to do with me!
Well, to be fair, I didn't give the Churching folks too much to like about me. But most of them didn't give me anything to like about them, either! I mean, I was a HEATHEN! I was given over to everything that goes against Christ. I was a drunk, immoral, a fornicator, a druggie, a liar, a cheat, a thief-I lived my life simply selfishly fulfilling the lusts of my flesh.
Nobody really told me what true Christianity was. As I got older, I suppose they thought I was hopeless. I remember waking up in cars full of mosquitoes, or in houses where I'd passed out, or where someone had carried me to. Sometimes I just made an effort to be obnoxious.
Some of my old friends aren't as bad as I was. Some are. And some are worse. But they are my friends. And I really don't think most of them know what True Christianity is. To them, I believe it's that club thing.
But I got to see some of them and to visit with them for a while. Each "old friend" I met with could have no idea of the burden I feel for them. I shared Jesus Christ with some of them…but all of them know who I serve. It is my heart's desire to see them find the joy of Christ. Maybe…
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE PEOPLE OF BIG FALLS, THAT THEIR EYES WOULD BE OPENED TO THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.
I was telling my cousin Mark and his wife Leann about Jesus, and somehow the conversation turned to Mark's tattoos. He told me he had been trying to remove one on his leg with sandpaper and lemon juice. When I looked at it, I saw that it was badly infected, and he was in danger of getting blood poisoning. I told him that he needed to put some alcohol on it. He told me that he'd done that, and it just about put him through the ceiling, because the pain was so great. I told him that a little pain was better than losing a leg, and eventually he became convinced of what I was saying, so he went home to get some alcohol. The wound covered a large area on his leg, and it was all red and looked real bad.
When he got back, he handed Leann the alcohol and told her to go ahead and pour it on. I asked him if I could pray first. He said sure. So, I asked the Lord to ease the pain as He had eased the pain for me when I broke my leg. Then I told Mark to take a pillow and put his face in it as Leann poured the alcohol on, and to go ahead and yell if he wanted to. I kept on praising Jesus as she poured the alcohol on his leg, and soon, Mark looked up from the pillow and declared that he felt no pain!
A while later, Mark and Leann both asked Jesus in their hearts! GLORY!.
PLEASE PRAY FOR MARK AND LEANN, THAT THEY WOULD CONTINUE TO GROW IN THE LORD. MARK NEEDS A JOB FOR THE WINTER MONTHS. PRAY THE LORD WILL HELP HIM GET ONE.
There is a wonderful church up there now, called the River of God Full Gospel Church. Tim Treat is the pastor, and he really has a heart for reaching the community. So do the congregation. They are not just Churchin' folk. I had a good time fellowshipping with them while I was there.
PLEASE LIFT THEM UP IN PRAYER TO THE FATHER, THAT HE WOULD BLESS THEM WITH ABUNDANT BLESSINGS OF THE MEANS TO IMPACT THEIR COMMUNITY FOR CHRIST… WITH FINANCES, WISDOM, UNDERSTANDING, BOLDNESS AND ABILITY. THEY ARE WILLING VESSELS. PRAY THE LORD WOULD OPEN THE EYES OF THOSE WHOM THE GOD OF THIS WORLD HAS BLINDED.
My mother is in pretty poor health…the winters are bad. She has to take care of her brother who is wheelchair bound. To tell the truth, I hate the snow and the cold up North. But I believe the Lord may be calling us to go up there this winter and help her. I can't carry the cross until my leg heals, and the Lord has given me a heart for ministry. And I believe I will be able to be occupied in His service up there. It will not be the most pleasant place to be…Sometimes it gets 40 below 0, and we will probably be living in our motorhome, but if He calls us to do something, He makes the way.
I'll be doing some ice fishing up there. The Lord spoke to my heart today. He said if you want to ice fish, you have to first break the ice, to get to the water, to catch the fish.
Northern Minnesota is truly a mission field. It is time to break the ice, and let the Living Waters flow so that people will see Jesus Christ for Who He is, and not for how He has been portrayed in the past. I am believing that there will be many doors that will be opened for me to step through in ministry of the Truth of His Word.
PRAISE GOD FOR THIS BROKEN LEG! ROMANS 8:28. IF IT WASN'T BROKEN, I PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED GOING TO MINNESOTA IN OCTOBER, AND AS A RESULT, I WOULDN'T HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT GOING NORTH FOR THE WINTER.
Last night I stood here in the warm Louisiana outdoors, listening to Canada Geese flying over. I thought "they have such little heads, and yet they have the common sense to head South for the winter, and here I am, willingly heading NORTH!"
Lord willing, we will be going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras outreach as usual, but we won't be resuming our trip "Crosscountry" until spring.
WE WILL NEED YOUR PRAYERS IN A BIG WAY.
On our way back from Minnesota, we got to swing through Tennessee, and visit our friends there. It was wonderful to visit Living Word Fellowship andPastor Larry and LaVonna, and to see all our friends in the Birchwood area.
John and Dianne Latour blessed us mightily by allowing us to stay at their house. Bruce Killian gave me a good report of having given his heart to Jesus, and being healed of crippling Arthritis. He'd used a cane for twelve years…it was a blessing to see him walking without one! Ralph Staton told me how he had been healed of Diabetes and high blood pressure. It's wonderful to know Jesus, the Great Physician!
Bruce has something wrong with his liver…Please pray the Lord would heal that, also.
Just one more testimony before I sign off…
Last Friday we got back to Morgan City from our journey North. I stopped in to see Charley Plaisance to see if My Brother's Keeper was doing any outreach. Sure enough, they were planning on going to Thibodaux. So I told Charley I would try to make it there if I could…We were pretty road weary, but I wanted to hit the streets with the Word of God. We drove the remaining 60 or so miles to Franklin, and checked on the Motorhome, and visited with brother Jerry Jett, the pastor of the church where we'd left our motorhome during our trek North.
We then drove back to Charley's house, and made it there just as they were loading up to go.
What a blessing to see about 10 cars lined up in his yard, and about 15-20 soldiers ready to take the land for Jesus!
We set up a Street church on a vacant lot just outside a nightclub…Later a police officer told us that it was a violent place…he had investigated a homocide just 20 feet away from where we were set up, and there had been three shootings there that year…PRAISE THE LORD! WE KNEW WE WERE IN THE RIGHT PLACE.
WHAT A BLESSING TO SEE THE SOLDIERS AT WORK PRAYING WITH MANY PEOPLE THAT NIGHT. GLORY!
Brother Francisco was led to preach in Spanish to the crowd. I didn't know what he said, but it was beautiful. Charley asked me to preach after Francisco, so I took the microphone and preached a word from Hebrews 6, where it says that our Hope in Jesus is the anchor of our soul. After I was finished, brother Francisco came to me and asked me if I could speak Spanish. I told him that I could not, but that I would love to learn how some day. He then informed me that I had preached the same message he had preached!
GLORY! TALK ABOUT TONGUES AND INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES! AIN'T GOD GREAT? I JUST STAND IN AWE OF THE WONDERFUL THINGS HE DOES! IT IS SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH HIM WORK I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I WENT FOR 27 YEARS OF MY LIFE MISSING OUT ON SUCH GOOD THINGS…SETTLING FOR THE SWINE'S FOOD INSTEAD OF EATING AT THE KING'S TABLE!
Which leads me to remember an event in my past. I was about 14 or 15, and a group of us boys went and raided a man's supply of homemade beer in Gemmell, Minnesota. The beer was in quart jars, and the yeast had settled to the bottom of the jars, leaving a sediment that was about 2 or 3 inches thick. The guys that were with me knew enough to just drink to the sediment and throw the rest away. I didn't know that, so I drank it all. I drank three or four of those quart jars.
I got real drunk, and the yeast did its' job on me, and to make a long story short, I ended up falling and hitting my head on a car bumper. I was in the hospital for two or three days in a coma because I had been poisoned by the yeast and the alcohol. The doctors said I almost died. While we were riding in that car, we were having the time of our lives. We were laughing and cutting up, and being cool. I had no clue as to what was waiting for me. Neither did my friends.
It's like that without Jesus. Sin is a subtle poison, and takes it's toll on every person who partakes of it. It feels good for a while, and seems like the right thing to do. Then by the time we realize it is killing us, it is often times too late. People are dying of AIDS, or hepatitis, or cancer, or violence, because of sin running rampant in their lives. People are being tormented by depression, and their lives are falling apart because of the result of sin in their lives. Those who are caught up in the world of sin are in a comatose condition, because of the deceit of the god of this world who they are unwittingly serving. He tells them, "Belly up to the bar of life and drink what I have to serve you. Forget that Living Water that Jesus talks about. The stuff I have for you is FUN!"
They are settling for the swill of sin, not realizing the toll it is taking on their lives. My friends didn't warn me, because they didn't know any better.
The travesty of all of this is that even after that brush with death, I continued to wallow in sin.
That is mankind's plight without Jesus. And sadly. For the most part, we Christians just keep quiet about our Saviour, because we are afraid of "offending someone." In the meantime, we shake our heads as we hear of kids killing kids, and people committing suicide because they don't know where to turn. Then their friends get together and have a beer in their memory, talking about how they can't understand what caused them to commit suicide.
People without Jesus are just unwittingly leading each other to Hell. If we really cared, we would do all we could to show them the way to the Light of Christ.
The Good News is that even while I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me so IO wouldn't have to go to hell.
Pastor Tommy Froementhal ofCornerstone ministries has really been a blessing to us as we have been here in Morgan City. He has a vision of uniting the churches and winning the lost.
PLEASE PRAY THAT HE WILL SEE THAT VISION COME TO PASS IN MORGAN CITY.
Herb Stanley and his wife, Anita have poured themselves out to us in love, while we have stayed here. True servants of the Most High God.
PLEASE PRAY THAT THE LORD WOULD RICHLY BLESS THEIR MINISTRY TO CHILDREN. ALSO, PLEASE PRAY FOR STEVE AND MARY BELL FOR THE HOSPITALITY THEY SHOWED US WHILE WE WERE BROKE DOWN. THEY SARTED A COFFEE HOUSE MINISTRY, AND IT IS GOING WELL.
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE OPEN CHURCH IN PATTERSON. THEY HAVE BEEN A TREMENDOUS BLESSING TO US, AND THEY HAVE A HEART FOR REACHING THE COMMUNITY.PRAY FOR THEM THAT THEY WOULD SEE THE FRUIT OF THEIR LABORS OF LOVE IN A GREAT WAY.
AND PLEASE PRAY FOR US AS WE WINTER IN THE NORTH, THAT GOD WOULD GIVE US DIRECTION AND WISDOM IN THE WAYS TO EFFECTIVELY MINISTER CHRIST AND HIS LOVE TO THE PEOPLE UP THERE.
WE LOVE YOU ALL…
